Morning Power Smoothie Recipe

In America we’ve grown accustomed to always needing a hearty breakfast or meal to appear healthy and well fed.  While the latter is true (you are fed) you just aren’t necessarily “well fed”.  Our culture has had this inaccurate idea that stuffing our belly is how we stay satisfied and healthy and the exact opposite is  true. Calories are needed but they have to be the RIGHT ones in order to actually count. In fact, there are many times when a nutrient dense meal with fewer calories leaves you more satisfied and for longer than a full course (heavy) meal.

With that said, we thought of another yummy smoothie for you to enjoy. This one we call the “Power Smoothie” because it’s filled with a ton of plant based proteins that are bound to nourish your cells and body. It also contains some superfood veggies and energy boosting carbohydrates.

To start, we used the Garden of Life Organic Vanilla Plant Based Protein. This is one of our favorite proteins mainly because of  its ingredients. Its protein source comes from Pea, Lentil Bean, Garbanzo Bean and Navy Bean. If you do some research you’ll find  that Pea Protein is just as effective as Whey Protein when helping you grow your muscles.  However, Whey doesn’t stand a chance to Pea Protein’s ability to provide your body with nutrients while preventing unnecessary mucus in your system. Less mucus helps your body maintain an alkaline state. Since all of the plant based proteins above are soy dairy and gluten free, it also minimizes your risk of having food sensitivities and prevents increased risk of auto-immune disorders and bloating.  We like the way Dr. Axe breaks down more benefits of Pea Protein. If you’d like to explore those benefits more  you could check it out here . Lastly, this protein supports your gut with probiotics.  Gut health is where it all begins, we love supplements and foods that work in harmony with your gut.

The other smoothie ingredients include...

KALE: For it’s anti-inflammatory, detoxification, cancer fighting, and antioxidant properties (and that’s just some of the benefits).

BANANA: For its energy building carbohydrates, potassium, magnesium and fiber nutrients.

STRAWBERRY: For its heart protection, immune system, and skin benefits.

BLACKBERRY: For its cardiovascular, reproductive, brain and  skin health benefits.

BAOBAB POWDER: For its iron absorption, blood sugar regulating  and  healthy digestion abilities (we did a recent post on Baobab powder and where you can buy it from, you can read about it here).

Take a look at the below video for a quick guide on how to make it.  Also, you can purchase the protein used by clicking on the link below. Do you have any other yummy smoothie recipes you’d like to share? As always leave a comment and let us know!
