<p>Feeling overwhelmed right now? You are not alone. In a world where your safety seems like a luxury and your ability to make ends meet has been threatened, it&#8217;s easy to fall into the trap of depression, anxiety, and self-doubt. Doubting your ability to provide, anxious over what the future (even if it&#8217;s a few days from now) will hold?</p>

<p>These are all normal feelings. The very best thing to do is to accept those feelings, identify with them, and allow NO ONE TO TELL YOU OTHERWISE. As human beings, we too often forget that our emotions show that we have a conscious. It&#8217;s what separates us from the un-normal, the sociopaths of the world and make us 100% relatable. We wanted to share some healthy ways to cope when in a challenging emotional state. </p>

<p>For one, never compromise your diet. Make this a priority, what you eat plays a vital role in hormone stability, and hormones play a huge role in your mental health. Proper food helps your body release chemicals to balance your mental state.</p>

<p>Exercise! We say this often, and you may remember this from our last post &#8220;how to stay mentally healthy during social distancing&#8221;.  We cannot say it enough! If you&#8217;re not already doing so,  we suggest you get moving when feeling down. Don&#8217;t over complicate it, it doesn&#8217;t have to be anything major or strenuous, it can be a simple walk, or just a few jumping jacks to get the blood moving and the endorphins going. When you release endorphins your body then helps to stabilize your mind, provide mental clarity and as a result you feel so much better inside.</p>

									<p>Become best friends with pen and paper and use it to write down your thoughts and how you feel. Too often we bottle up our emotions. This is dangerous! If you don&#8217;t feel like you can safely talk to someone about how you feel right now (maybe you fear judgement or lack of empathy)  it&#8217;s a good idea to transfer your emotions from your head and on to paper. Release them, so that your mind can start to relax. This will help you process what you feel and will bring huge relief especially if you&#8217;re feeling anxious.</p>								</div>

Take a few moments, lie on the ground palms facing the ceiling, back pressed against the floor, legs and arms spread apart, eyes closed and some  calm relaxing music playing in the background. Allow your mind to stop moving so viciously. Take a break from reality and give your body oxygen by repeatedly taking deep breaths to center you.  Do this for 30 minutes each day to reset your chakras and relax your adrenal glads.</p>

									<p>Talk to friends &amp; family, communicate with a circle that is safe. If you&#8217;re still social distancing that&#8217;s fine, continue to do so but maybe pick up the phone and chat. Make sure you are connecting with a safe circle that allows you to share your thoughts and your feelings. Always be respectful of others opinions and feelings as well. Embrace differences, show kindnesses, show love. You&#8217;ll be amazed at how simple this very action can fill your heart with the same love, care and compassion you desire.</p>

									<p>Have you ever been pressed for time and just need a quick hair hack to get you through the day ? You know, something fast and easy  but quality at the same time, keeping your curls defined and moisturized? If so, we suggest you try this simple wash day routine and see if it works for you.  </p><p>This week while washing my hair I was left with nothing to deep condition or soften it with. I usually deep condition my hair each time I wash it and not being able to this time didn&#8217;t sit well with me. Not to mention, my hair was a little dry from the previous style I had. </p><p>So it was time to get creative! To my surprise this quick, simple and easy routine worked. It actually managed to soften my hair leaving me with a hydrated wash &amp; go  (which is essentially what a deep conditioner is supposed to do). Here&#8217;s how I did it and what I used.</p><p><strong>STEP 1</strong>: First, straight out of the shower I sectioned my hair while it was wet into fours (4).  I then added Sweet Almond Oil to each section.</p><p><strong>STEP 2</strong>: Next, I dug up some of the store bought products I had. I don&#8217;t have many&#8230;I&#8217;m a true creature of habit and often prefer D.I.Y food based alternatives to deep condition my hair. But for the sake of time, I used  the <strong>TGIN Daily Butter Cream Moisturizer</strong>. Using the raking method I applied the product evenly throughout my hair. Since this product focuses on MOISTURE I decided to use this as a substitute for a deep conditioner.</p><p><strong>STEP 3</strong>: I put a cap over my head and sat under the dryer for about 30 minutes using medium heat.</p><p><strong>STEP 4</strong>: After the 30 minutes was up (without rinsing the TGIN Butter Cream Daily Moisturizer out) I continued adding the rest of my wash day products <strong>(Shea Moisture&#8217;s Curl Stretch Pudding and Taliah Waajid&#8217;s Hair Sealer)</strong> as a finishing touch.</p><p>Four years into my natural hair journey and I have pretty much mastered the Wash &amp; Go. I have a solid understanding of how to retain moisture. With that being said I can&#8217;t say I&#8217;m surprised that I&#8217;m on day three (3) and my wash and go is still vibrant. </p><p>My hair was so moisturized, soft &amp; hydrated (winning)!</p>								</div>

First, you must like spicy because the jalapeños in this taco are bound to give you a little kick!</p><p>You may notice that our taco shells are a little larger than most and that&#8217;s because we&#8217;ve been experiencing the nightmare &#8220;club supermarket&#8221; has been giving us each time we attempt to find our favorite foods in the grocery store. Originally, we wanted to find spelt tortillas but had to settle for whole-grain organic tortillas instead, considering the circumstances. Remember, here at Natrurally Culturred we believe in practicing a predominately healthy lifestyle and maintaining balance when adding in a cheat meal from time to time. 									<p>I think it&#8217;s safe to say that everyone much rather be out carrying on with their lives instead of staying locked in the house. For some, its business as usual but for those who are taking precautions staying inside can be a daunting task and weigh on your mental health. No, nothing is wrong with you if you start to get the type of cabin fever that has you slowly becoming depressed. We&#8217;re human, we are meant to soak up the sun, breath in earths air, and be active. Being inside like a caged animal can quickly show you how uncomfortable your are with that reality.  So here are some ways to keep your spirits up during a time when life just seems a bit confusing. </p><ul><li><strong>Morning Yoga: </strong>Stretch, move and center your energy. Getting blood to flow is an optimal way to balance out hormone levels and keep things mentally in check.</li><li><strong>Maintain Normal Hygiene: </strong>When you&#8217;re just laying around it&#8217;s easy to loose track of your normal routine. Continue to start the day with a nice shower, brushing your teeth, doing your hair&#8230; freshening up. You may not have anywhere to go but loosing yourself in the process won&#8217;t help you feel good.</li><li><strong>Sit outside:</strong> Maybe you have a deck, balcony or terrace you can get out to. Stay confined to home, but get some fresh air and a sense of life by enjoying the outdoors right in your backyard. </li><li><strong>Read an educational book:</strong> Tap into something that focuses on one of the goals you&#8217;ve had for a while but had trouble pursuing. Now that the world is shut down you have sometime to explore at your own pace. </li></ul>								</div>

The chemical reactions that happen within your body&#8230;releasing of endorphins to the brain, oxygen making its way to your major organs all  results in a HAPPIER YOU.  The feeling just can&#8217;t be matched.</li><li><strong>Turn Off Social Media: </strong>No seriously! Social media is a great place to go if you want to make yourself feel like you&#8217;re missing out on something when you&#8217;re not! Whether it be the obnoxious post about <em><strong>&#8220;how far you should be taking your business now that you have time&#8221;</strong></em> or just the continued reminder of the virus and everyones opinion on what&#8217;s causing it. It can be mentally exhausting without realizing it. <strong>TAKE A BREAK</strong> and set specific time frames/ limits for social media.</li><li><strong>EAT WELL:  </strong>Now isn&#8217;t the time to start loosing the strength of your immunity. Not only that, but food plays a huge part in mood disorders. Your hormones are easily affected by bad foods and as a result so is your mood.  Although it can be tempting to pig out on junk foods be cautious of how you&#8217;re eating. Calories are needed but they have to be the RIGHT ones in order to actually count. In fact, there are many times when a nutrient dense meal with fewer calories leaves you more satisfied and for longer than a full course (heavy) meal. </p><p>With that said, we thought of another yummy smoothie for you to enjoy. This one we call the &#8220;Power Smoothie&#8221; because it&#8217;s filled with a ton of plant based proteins that are bound to nourish your cells and body. It also contains some superfood veggies and energy boosting carbohydrates.</p><p>To start, we used the Garden of Life Organic Vanilla Plant Based Protein. This is one of our favorite proteins mainly because of  its ingredients. Its protein source comes from Pea, Lentil Bean, Garbanzo Bean and Navy Bean. If you do some research you&#8217;ll find  that Pea Protein is just as effective as Whey Protein when helping you grow your muscles.  However, Whey doesn&#8217;t stand a chance to Pea Protein&#8217;s ability to provide your body with nutrients while preventing unnecessary mucus in your system. 									<h2>Reason 1: You&#8217;re Washing Your Hair Too Often</h2><p>Ethnic hair is dry naturally, so the focus should be on finding ways to provide it with moisture. Over-shampooing will do the opposite of that but keep in mind that shampooing your hair and rinsing it are two different things. Hair in its natural state loves water. Water is its main source of hydration and hydration helps with the repairing &amp; growing process.</p><p>If you feel you wash your hair more than 2x a month start by swapping the shampoo for a hydrating co-wash. Reduce the number of times you shampoo and alternate between a co-wash instead. Doing so will help control product build-up while maintaining moisture.</p><h2>Reason 2: Your Hair Cuticles are Damaged, or You Have Split Ends</h2><p>Damaged hair equals dry hair and split ends are a form of damaged hair.   If you apply heat to your hair regularly or had heat damage before, chances are you have a head full of damaged hair cuticles. A damaged hair cuticle usually lacks the needed protein bonds to be strong and also does not close properly. Hair cuticles that cannot close, don&#8217;t retain moisture and leave your hair dry.  Most of the time, those who have high porosity hair are suffering from some form of cuticle damage.</p><p>Split ends on the other hand result from various reasons but often they come from too much hair manipulation and the use of brushes that snag your ends. Here&#8217;s how you can solve that,  GET a TRIM and cut the damaged hair off, then start using a wide-tooth comb when managing your hair. ALWAYS comb it when wet and if you can apply a conditioner to your hair beforehand it will help prevent breakage  during the detangling process.  Be extra gentle when styling and remember the ends are the oldest part of your hair and need extra TLC. 									<h2>Reason 3: You are Using Products That Do Not Support Moisture</h2><p>This is why learning how to read labels is super important for consumers not just with hair products but with everything for your body. </p><p>Water is the only true form of moisture, so start by finding products that have a high content of both water &amp; essential oils in them. The best way to know if a product has a lot of water in it is to look at where water falls on the ingredient list. The ingredient that is listed first, is often the ingredient that is present most within the product.</p><p>Ditch and/or limit the use of gels that are unnatural such as Eco Style or Gorilla Snot Gel. Also, pay attention to the other ingredients that are in your hair products. Many products contain unnatural chemicals that dry and harm your hair as well. A great alternative to Eco Style Gel is Flaxseed Gel.  This type of Gel is all-natural and includes a host of vitamins and minerals for your hair making it very hydrating.  </p><h2>Reason 4: Lack of Deep Conditioner/ Hair Treatments</h2><p>If you want moisture in your hair, you have to start training your hair to retain it. The best way to do this is by providing your hair with deep treatments as much as possible. We recommend doing treatments twice a month if not every wash day <em><strong>(highly recommended)</strong></em>. Only use treatments that support moisture, hair growth and are conditioning to the hair. Overtime if you are consistent, your hair will start to exchange its dryness for moisturized healthier-looking tresses. </p><h2>Reason 5: You Are Not Using Natural Oils to Seal Your Hair</h2><p>As mentioned, water is the only form of moisture for your hair but how do you effectively lock in the moisture? To get your hair to its healthiest state you will need some assistance from natural sealing oils. Natural oils do not provide moisture however, they assist the hair with locking it in. <p>Here&#8217;s a task for you if you&#8217;re not already doing it now. Next time you wash your hair, coat your hair with one of these natural oils before applying any other products.
